2025, Equines, 3 weeks
I did three weeks of equine practical in Dublin. The days were long (8am-6pm + 1-3 hours overtime everyday) monday to friday. The Irish students were on a summer holiday so it was just me and max three other local students volunteering. Local students were super friendly and helpful.
The clinic was medium sized, not very busy but the cases we had stayed there for a long time and they took quite a while every day. Lots of dentistry, some gastroscopies, surgeries and internal medicine cases. Not much orthopedic cases.
The vets and nurses were very friendly and keen to teach, they answered questions thoroughly. They also asked some questions every morning during the rounds but if you didn’t know the answer the interns or residents would help.
Students are allowed to observe everything, assist in surgeries and hold the morning and evening rounds. Unfortunately students aren’t allowed to do much but I feel like i still learned quite a bit due to the great learning environment.
Overall Dublin was a nice place but housing is very expensive. There’s good hiking places that can be reached via public transport.
